Argentina’s recently-elected President Javier Milei has announced that his relationship with actress and comedian Fátima Flórez has ended.

Mr. Milei made the announcement on the X social media platform, where he publicly stated that he and Ms. Flórez were ending their relationship as a result of their conflicting work schedules. The split was amicable, he said, and Mr. Milei and Ms. Flórez would continue to remain friends.

“As a result of the overwhelming professional success that Fátima is experiencing, of whom I am extremely proud, she has received numerous job offers to work in both the United States and Europe,” Mr. Milei wrote.

“This, added to the complex task that I face today and that the Argentines have entrusted to me, has led us to live separately, making the relationship that we would like to have impossible, despite how much we love each other. That is why we decided to end our relationship and maintain a bond of friendship given how we feel about each other and how much we love, respect, and admire each other,” Mr. Milei wrote.

The Argentine president started dating the 43-year-old actress and comedian—who called herself his “lioness”—in July of last year. The daughter of an architect, Ms. Flórez met Mr. Milei during their appearance on a chat show in December, 2023. At the time, Ms. Flórez was still married to her husband of over 20 years.

The popular actress, who boasts close to 1.5 million followers on Instagram, had made no secret of her adoration of the Argentinian president, saying in January that she was “hooked on Javier.”

Speculation had been growing in Argentina in recent months, however, that not all was going well in the relationship, with rumors circulating that the couple had been growing apart. To date, Ms. Flórez has not responded to Mr. Milei’s announcement of their split.

The couple were last photographed together in Miami on April 10, when they attended an event organized by the local Jewish community.

The Argentine president also met with tech billionaire and Tesla CEO Elon Musk last week in Texas. The topics discussed included stimulating a free market economy, as well as the existential danger posed by declining birth rates, among other matters.

Since being elected at the end of last year, Mr. Milei’s historic win in Argentina has sparked hope across the heavily socialist South American continent for a return to a more conservative political approach in the region.
