The father of a man killed by an illegal immigrant criticized California’s sanctuary state law on “Fox & Friends,” on Wednesday, April 10. He also slammed California Gov. Gavin Newsom for putting illegal immigrants before U.S. citizens.

Don Rosenberg blames California’s immigration policy for the death of his son, Drew Rosenberg. In 2010, an unlicensed illegal immigrant, Roberto Galo, killed Drew Rosenberg, according to The Daily Signal. Drew Rosenberg was on his motorcycle in San Francisco when Galo made a last-second turn and hit him.

“Instead of stopping, he accelerated, and drove over his body,” Rosenberg told KPIX5. “My son’s helmet had come off, and wedged under one of Galo’s tires, so he backed up, driving over him a second time. And then a third time, trying to flee, [he] drove over him a third time.”

Five months before that, Galo had been cited for driving without a license or insurance. He was also heading the wrong way on a one-way street in San Francisco, according to Fox News. Galo’s car was impounded for a day, but when he paid the fine, the charges were dropped.

“When [Barack] Obama was president we couldn’t even talk to anybody,” Rosenberg said. “There was no response whatsoever.”

Galo was originally charged with vehicular homicide, but then it was reduced to misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter, Rosenberg said. Galo only had to spend 43 days in jail for the death of Drew Rosenberg. After that, he was allowed to continue living in the United States for another two years before being deported, according to The Daily Signal.

“Newsom is one of the three people that I consider directly related to my son’s death,” Rosenberg said on “Fox & Friends.”

“He was the mayor of San Francisco when my son was killed. It was his policy a year before that if you are in the country illegally you can drive in San Francisco without a license and the guy who killed my son was caught prior to that and they just dropped the charges, let him go, and he continued to drive until he killed my son,” Rosenberg added.

Newsom is currently on a 4-day trip to El Salvador to learn more about the reason behind why so many Central American migrants are making their way to the United States.

“He (Newsom) says he’s going down there to get a better understanding of what’s going on. I think he needs to travel around California and get a better understanding of what illegal immigration has done to the state,” Rosenberg said.

Rosenberg is the president of Advocates for Victims of Illegal Alien Crime, a nonprofit organization aimed at promoting “American’s safeness from illegal alien crime.”

Rosenberg said he was also worried about the potential deal on the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, saying the government should secure the rest of the immigration system before addressing the issue.

“Our position is you don’t do anything about DACA until you take care of everything else with illegal immigration and I’m very nervous about that one,” Rosenberg said.

As a sanctuary city, San Francisco recently came under criticism for finding illegal immigrant Jose Ines Garcia Zarate not guilty for the murder of Kate Steinle. A jury found Zarate not guilty on all counts, except for “felony possession of a weapon.” Steinle’s murder case led to a nationwide debate about the legality of sanctuary cities and the policies surrounding illegal immigrants.

Rosenberg appeared in an ad where he mentioned both Steinle and his son.

“California should be a sanctuary, for Californians,” he said. He appealed to then-governor Jerry Brown not to sign the sanctuary bill for California. However, Brown signed the bill into law last October after the Senate Democrats passed the bill on a one party-line vote, according to The Daily Signal.

On “Fox & Friends,” Rosenberg had strong words for former Democratic Gov. Brown.

“I wish he would get on the bullet train, first stop to hell, and he should get off and stay there,” Rosenberg said. “His concern for criminals, be they legal or not, is outrageous and has cost the life of many Californians.”
