Construction Underway on Winters Library

October 14, 2008

(Winters, CA) October 14, 2008 – NTD Architecture is pleased to announce that construction is underway on Winters Library in Winters, California. The $3.5 million, 10,800 square foot facility is a joint-venture by the County of Yolo, City of Winters, Winters Joint Unified School District, The Winters Friends of the Library, Margaret Parsons Trust, and the community of Winters. The new library will play a major role in the economic redevelopment of the community and will serve as a major hub for social events.

“One of our major focuses as a firm is bringing communities together through design,” says Jordan S. Knighton, AIA, Partner at NTD Architecture. “The Winters Library, as a joint-use community development, is an excellent example of a project that brings a variety of people together.”

Designed to serve both the local high school and the community, Winters Library will feature an open floor plan with clear zoning separations between the young adult, children’s, and general public dedicated areas by use of subtle differentiation of character. Exterior materials, such as tan brick, were selected to respond to the natural surroundings.

Sustainable design drove many of the decisions in the design process. An east/west building placement responds to the site and takes optimum advantage of daylighting, reducing energy costs. Light-colored materials for roofing shingles and site paving help to minimize heat gain.

The team assigned to the Library includes NTD Architecture as the architect and interior designer, AR Associates as the civil engineer, Miyamoto International, Inc. as the structural engineer, Glumac as the MEP engineer, and Yamasaki Landscape Architecture as the landscape architect.

The new library will be located at 708 Railroad Avenue and is estimated for completion in July 2009.
