NTD Architecture is pleased to announce that construction is underway on the new North Tower Addition at Methodist Hospital of Southern California. The six-story, 155,000-square-foot tower addition is in response to increased occupancy rates and the need to comply with current seismic safety regulations. The project is one of only two hospital projects in California that are being financed through the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) program; the other being Ridgecrest Regional Hospital, also designed by NTD.
“We’ve been working with Methodist Hospital to help them achieve their visions for their hospital campuses for over 50 years,” says Wayne Hunter, AIA, ACHA, Partner at NTD Architecture. “This addition will significantly improve both the Hospital’s safety level and operational efficiency. The much needed tower will be a great benefit to the community.”
The North Tower Addition will substantially expand the capacity of the hospital’s ICU, which will increase from 29 to 40 beds, and the Emergency Department, which will increase from 17 to 28 beds. An 18-bed observation unit will also be added along with 120 medical surgical rooms, 20 critical care patient rooms, and a new pharmacy, kitchen and cafeteria.
Of modern architectural design, the tower will feature hotel-like interior finishes and healing environment elements, such as natural light and plantings. A new dynamic two-story lobby and main entry structure with a large, covered drop-off area will be created to serve both the new tower as well as the neighboring Berger Tower.
McCarthy is serving as the General Contractor on the tower.
