NTD Architecture is pleased to announce the completion of Vista Grande High School, the second major comprehensive high school for the Casa Grande Union High School District. Construction on the $60 million school broke ground in October of 2007 and completed this June. An official dedication ceremony was held at the new school on June 26.

Vista Grande High School includes 259,000 SF of built space and sits on a 60-acre lot. Maximum student capacity is 1,875, though it will initially open with an estimated 700 students grades 9-10. The school’s design reflects Spanish Colonial Revival architectural style, which is inherent to Casa Grande’s history.

Sustainable design features were incorporated throughout the project. Water usage is reduced through the use of drought-tolerant landscaping, controlled irrigation systems and low flow plumbing fixtures. An energy management system controlling the school’s central plant mechanical system and energy efficient, motion sensored lighting will reduce unnecessary use of lighting and HVAC systems. Heat gain is reduced through a reflective insulated roofing system, insulated windows with reflective glass, and strategic daylighting positioning.

Facilities on campus include a lecture hall, computer labs, mobile laptop labs, a culinary arts facility, a child development facility, and drama, band and choir rooms, and a specially designed performing arts auditorium with two divisible classroom pods. The school’s library is designed for joint use between the City of Casa Grande and the Casa Grande Union High School District.

Athletic facilities on campus include fields for band, tennis, outdoor basketball, football, baseball and soccer. Also included are two basketball courts, eight tennis courts, a football and track stadium, men’s and women’s gymnasiums with locker rooms, and rooms for wrestling, dance and weight training.

The team involved in the project includes NTD Architecture, Sundt Construction, Hubbard Engineering, Paragon Structural Design, LSW Engineers, SSE, James Brockman & Associates, Knipp Design Associates, McConaghie Associates, and Riske & Associates. Vista Grande High School is located at 1556 North Arizola Road in Casa Grande.
