Two men were killed and another woman was seriously injured after a burglar broke into their Florida home and allegedly tried to steal their car, officials said.

Ezekiel Emanuel Hopkins faces two counts of murder and one count of aggravated battery, said police, according to ClickOrlando. Officials said a 10-year-old boy inside the home called the police while hiding inside a bathroom in the home, which is located in a gated community in Windermere.

Police said that Hopkins allegedly forced open the gate with his car and tried to steal a car from the home. He was then confronted by the homeowners, identified as Lisa and John Savey.

“We do know that in a video that we saw right here from the front entrance here that he came down the road on a high rate of speed turned into this entrance and pushed the gate open turned his lights off,” Windermere Chief David Ogden told the news outlet in an interview.

Hopkins is accused of attacking Savey and beating him to death with a baseball bat. Hopkins then went inside the home and beat James Savey, Lisa Savey’s son, and killed him, officials said. Lisa Savey was hospitalized with serious injuries, said police.

“Words can’t really describe what we wanna say to this family our hearts and our prayers certainly go out to them,” Ogden added.

Hopkins was found by police officers in another bathroom in the home. Officials told the station that Hopkins also allegedly drank bleach and wasn’t responsive.

Ogden said at a news conference that he doesn’t believe the family was specifically targeted, according to People magazine.

Lisa and John Savey were identified by police as the boy’s grandparents.
