10 years ago he almost died due to a gunshot, today he is a dedicated doctor on a mission to save others!

Sometimes life changing events occur just so dramatically, like this incredible survival story that eventually turned out to be a precious mission of saving  lives!

Kevin Morton Jr. was shot in the stomach by an assassin in the year 2007. He was getting into his car after closing the restaurant where he was working.  He was immediately rushed to St. John Hospital, Detroit for emergency treatment.

His wounds were really bad and the doctors stated that he only had 10% chance of survival, however, under doctors treatment and care, he regained his life only to pursue his own career as a doctor.

The assasin’s bullet had passed through his diaphragm and hit a major artery. Portions of his pancreas, small intestine and colon were removed. He suffered from a collapsed lung.

Due to complications from his surgeries, he couldn’t eat.  He was fed through an IV for a year.

Dr. Dharti Sheth Zelmanski was the surgeon who tended to Kevin’s injuries and who performed multiple surgeries on him. She went out of her way to save Kevin’s life and return him to health with a normal lifestyle.

After going through this life threatening event  in 2007,  Kevin had a second chance in life.  He wanted to give back to life what he had gained.

He went back to college in 2009, to Oakland University, majored in pre-med, and took extra classes in biochemistry and microbiology. Then, in the year 2012,  Kevin took MCAT, and was later accepted at Michigan State University’s College of Osteopathic Medicine, and chose to specialize in general surgery.

He did his student rounds at St. John’s Hospital in Detroit,  the same place where he was brought in as a patient in 2007.  He took up a House Surgeon assignment for nine years that July, to finally becoming a fully fledged doctor.

As for his personal life, Kevin married Sherry his  High School sweetheart, in 2009, which was attended by Dr. Dharti Sheth.  Kevin gave a grand welcome speech and introduced his guests to his life saver.

Life is indeed precious, let us not squander it, let us make it our  mission to give  purpose to our lives, by making it   truly meaningful.
