For 86 days, red-hot lava spilled out of the volcano on the Spanish island of La Palma. It destroyed thousands of houses and many of the banana plantations, a mainstay of the island’s economy. Now that the eruption is declared over, residents are returning. Even for those who have not lost their homes, there is a lot of rebuilding to do and a mammoth cleanup operation is underway.
