A Michigan grandmother, who recently turned 104 years old, claims that the secret to her long life is diet coke.
Theresa Rowley, a resident of the Sentinel Pointe Retirement Community located in the Grand Rapids, said she moved there 15 years ago when she was 89 years old.
Rowley reached another milestone after her birthday on New Year’s Day.
“I’m surprised that I’m 104,” Rowley told ABC affiliate WZZM. “It just doesn’t seem like I should be that old.”
“When I was 100, I thought I’d never be 104; I thought I’d pass away by that time, but it just didn’t happen,” she said. “Then I turn 101, and nothing happens.”
She told the network she was born in Illnois in 1914 before moving to North Dakota, and then eventually moved to Michigan.

“Here I am 104, and still nothing happens,” she told WZZM.
Rowly told the network the reason for her longevity is due to her daily intake of diet coke—her favorite beverage.
Maybe the real secret behind her long life is that she is partaking in something that makes her happy.

“I drink it because I like it,” Rowley told WZZM. “I’m going shopping Wednesday, and I need more Diet Coke. I have a bag full of empty Diet Coke cans that I need to return to buy more Diet Coke.”
She said she drinks at least one can of Diet Coke every single day.
Diet Coke was first launched in the United States back in 1982. At that time Towly would have been 68 years old.
On Tuesday, one day after her birthday, Rowley celebrated with a cake and with the full support of her retirement community, WZZM reported.
