A decade ago, New York City Mayor Eric Adams—then a state senator—had the idea of hosting a black men’s brunch. The goal was to help build the black community by supporting black-owned restaurants and mentoring the youth. The event started with just 40 people, but this year, hundreds attended. Saturday was the 10th anniversary of the brunch.
