$128,000 Nanny Job With Porsche, Michelin Chef Brings Flood of Applicants
An ad posted to a U.K. website offers $128,000 salary and several perks to a highly qualified nanny willing to work 13 hours/day, 6 days a week, and travel between four residences. (Gonzalo Malpartida/Flickr)

A “friendly family of six” that splits their time between homes in London, Barbados, Cape Town, and Atlanta, is being bombarded with applications for a live-in nanny position that offers a six-figure salary.

What began out as a simple job posting turned into something else after their posting for the job turned into a viral news sensation.

“We were surprised to see our advert making headlines in the national and international press!” the mother wrote in an update to their ad.

After thanking those who had responded to the advertisement, the coupled asked would-be applicants to more carefully read their ad and consider if they qualified.

“There have been over 1000 applications to date and only a small handful meet the specific requirements and criteria clearly stipulated in the advert below.

“If you do not have ALL the necessary qualifications, skills and experience for the role then we would politely request that you DO NOT bother making an application as it is a WASTE OF OUR TIME and yours,” reads the update.

The couple is looking for a “highly qualified nanny” who has a degree in child psychology, no children of their own, and at least 15 years nannying experience.

“The candidate must be willing to work six days a week, 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. We have four homes in London, Barbados, Cape Town, and Atlanta. The applicant therefore must be comfortable with flying regularly, as they may be required to travel internationally up to three times a week, depending where the children are,” it reads.

And for those imagining a jet-set lifestyle full of luxury and Sound of Music-type revelry, the author adds a warning.

“I feel it is best to be upfront—the role is demanding. Our children are home-schooled and require constant attention and supervision, even when they are with their teachers. We’d like our nanny to participate in lessons where appropriate, to help further their studies outside of the classroom.”

There are some perks though. While the couple prefers that the nanny eat with the children at every meal, those meals are cooked by a Michelin star chef. The couple also has multiple cars, including a Porsche, Range Rover, and Maserati “which are available for the candidate to use.”

Of course, part of that use includes running errands and taking the children to various daily appointments.

Said nanny can, however, expect a break from time to time, as the couple does like time alone with their children.

“Therefore, there will be periods where we ask our nanny to take leave to allow us to have quality time as a family.”

The nanny can do as she or he likes in their free time, though binge drinking and drugs are cause for instant dismissal.

A nanny that already knows how to fight her way out of a tough situation is also preferred, states the ad.

“Ideally our nanny will be trained in self-defense, however if the right candidate doesn’t already have this training we will provide and pay for it. This is nonnegotiable.”

The salary, 100,000 pounds or $128,000, comes after the candidate clears a 2-week nonnegotiable trial period living with the family in one of their four homes.
