NEW YORK — Police say a teenage passenger has been killed in a car crash after the 22-year-old driver lost control going over the Manhattan Bridge and slammed into a hydrant.
According to WABC-TV , the accident happened at about 2 a.m. Tuesday near Bowery and Canal Streets, just over the Manhattan Bridge.

Police say the driver is being held on suspicion of drunken driving.
Police say he was able to escape the vehicle, but 17-year-old Shareef Bellerand of Brooklyn was trapped inside and was later pronounced dead.
The fire hydrant was knocked across the street. Police were investigating and delays were expected to and from the Holland Tunnel and Manhattan Bridge.
