Law enforcement agents responded to a domestic violence call on Wednesday that, according to a WOWK report, allegedly ended with a man’s suicide.
But when officers arrived at the Red Oak Road address in Roane County, West Virginia, just after 6 p.m. on Dec. 27, they were met with gunfire from 52-year-old Stanley Gordon Hoskins Jr., who was assumed to have killed himself.
A trooper was shot in the leg, according to the report, and a Roane County Sheriff’s Deputy was also hit by at least one bullet.
The officers arrived at the scene in response to a woman’s 911 call. She allegedly told emergency dispatch that a man inside the house had committed suicide.
After firing his weapon, Hoskins barricaded himself inside the house.
The officers meanwhile withdrew, took cover and radioed for reinforcements.
State troopers, SWAT personnel, and Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office Deputies reportedly surrounded the house and engaged in an overnight standoff with the shooter.
A military helicopter reportedly provided air support for a period of time.
On the morning of Dec. 28, law enforcement agents took the suspect into custody.
Hoskins’ last hiding place was reportedly underneath the house.
Captain Reggie Patterson with West Virginia State Police told reporters that neither of the wounded agents was in serious condition.
Police are still investigating.
