20 beached whales rescued from Sri Lanka coast

A pod of 20 whales repeatedly beached themselves near the village of Sampur on Sri Lanka’s northeast coast.

Villagers and sailors from the nearby naval base teamed up to push the whales back into the ocean.

No one knows why the whales repeatedly stranded themselves on the beach. Cyclone Mora had just passed through—that may have been a factor in some way.

The spot is a popular whale-and dolphin-watching spot.

A lot of marine mammals live in the deep water just off the coast.

Now, a few more of them will live a while longer.
