Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg announced on Monday that 24-year-old Hayden Espinosa had been indicted on charges for selling illegal guns to undercover NYPD officers while in federal prison in Louisiana. Mr. Espinosa advertised and sold guns and gun parts through a Telegram chat using phones that had been smuggled into prison. Authorities say that many buyers in the chat were racially motivated and that the chat was also connected to the shooter in the 2022 Buffalo Tops Friendly Markets supermarket shooting. Officials say the crackdown on illegal gun trafficking is essential to preventing future shootings.
