4 skydivers plummeted 7620 meters, but only 1 hit the target without parachute

You know that nightmare you have of falling through the sky at terminal velocity with no parachute? It finally came true for a daredevil skydiver in California over the weekend.

skydive-1

As the world watched, Luke Aikins, 42, plummeted 25,000 feet above California’s Simi Valley, having leapt from a plane along with three other skydivers, only to make a solo precision landing into a 100 feet x 100 foot, two-tiered net at 120 mph. The stunt was dubbed “Heaven Sent.”

After the nail-biter of a finish, Aikins remained still for a moment. Once the net was dropped to the ground, he got up and hugged his wife.

“As my wife Monica said, ‘Nothing but net’” Aikins, who has a 4-year-old son, wrote on Facebook after successful landing.

The daredevil with stones of steel has over 18,000 jumps to his credit, and also works as a stuntman—maybe you saw his work in a little movie called Iron Man 3.

To prepare, he did dozens of jumps, with a parachute, while aiming for a 100×100 foot target. “To me, this jump is simply the next logical step in a lifetime of extreme challenges,” Aikins said.
