Ahhh…..the beauty queen. Modest, genuine, kind and beautiful. Those are few words and qualities that come to mind when we think of the title “Beauty Queen”.

This young lady, Khanitta ‘Mint’ Phasaeng is definitely befitting of such a title.

She became a garbage collector after dropping out of school at the age of 14. Her mother could no longer afford the fees. In a life-changing experience just three years later, she was crowned a beauty queen. At 17-years-old, Khanitta entered the national pageant in Thailand. She won the competition and was declared Miss Uncensored News 2015. She had been living in a 4 x 5-meter shack with her 5 other family members before she was crowned. They would separate the garbage they found and kept what they could use at that time.

But Mint never felt ashamed.”What I have today is because of my mother. She and I make a living by doing honest work, so there is no reason why I should feel inferior.”

This photo of the beauty queen kneeling in gratitude to her garbage collecting mother went viral soon after she was crowned.
