Travel is going to be a lot busier this July 4 than last year.

The American Automobile Association (AAA) says more than 47 million Americans are expected to travel between July 1 and July 5.

According to AAA, that represents a near full recovery to pre-pandemic travel volumes.

The organization says this year’s Independence Day travel volume is set to be the second highest on record.

The projected volume is an almost 40 percent increase over last year, when only 34.2 million people traveled.

The overwhelming majority of travel—91 percent—will be by car, despite sky high gas prices.
