Five thousand Bharatanatyam dancers in India’s southern Chennai city performed on April 14. They broke a Guinness World Record for the largest Bharatanatyam dance.

Bharatnatyam is a classical Indian dance form dating as far back as 4000 B.C.

Students and artists from across the state participated in the event at Vel University.

The dancers performed the classical dance for 26 minutes, local media reported.

A Guinness Book adjudicator who observed the event declared it the largest Bharatanatyam dance.

The last group that held the title were 2,100 Bharatnatyam dancers who performed in  Kolhapur city.
