A body found inside a barrel near a vacant Detroit home two weeks ago was identified as missing U.S. Marine Douglas Calhoun, it was reported.
He was reported missing on June 1, 2017. The cause of death was not released, ClickonDetroit.com reported.
Calhoun, 39, came back home at around 3:30 a.m. to his Detroit home after going out with friends, telling them that he got home safely. But his vehicle was found later at Fenkell Avenue and Evergreen Road on Detroit’s west side.
Calhoun, known as “Chef Doug,” didn’t show up to his two jobs either. He also didn’t get on a June 2 flight to St. Louis for a big event, reports said.
“What I’m feeling, I can’t describe it,” Eric Phillips, Calhoun’s brother-in-law, told the station. “The fact that he didn’t show up at this job, which is what gave me cause to be concerned,” his sister, Dayna Phillips, said, Fox2 reported.
Fox2 reported that there was some fraudulent activity on his credit cards.
“We got some information about fraudulent activity on his credit cards, which occurred on June 2—all throughout the day on June 2,” Phillips said. On that day, there were purchases at gas stations and liquor stores around Brightmoor, Detroit.
Crime Stoppers was offering a $6,000 reward to anyone with information that helped locate him.
“Regardless of the money, if you know something somebody should say something and bring this man home to his family,” Calhoun’s sister added.
