A 78-year-old woman takes a dangerous journey every day. She boards a self-propelled “flying trough.” The trough hangs from rope stretched across the river and she pulls herself across the river sitting on the trough. She uses it to transport groceries and goods. It requires a lot of strength to operate. It’s the quickest way to get to the village from her home.
50 years ago, Khrystyna Rosokha started using it. Her late husband built it for quicker transportation.
Some villagers died when its rope snapped. Many take the bridges that are safer but farther away.
The government finally decided to build a bridge nearby. So Khrystyna’s arduous daily journey may soon be safer.
