Canadian authorities said two missing tourists visiting Alberta, Canada, from Boston, Massachusetts, were confirmed deceased on Friday (March 17) when their bodies were found at the scene of an avalanche.

“Visitor safety specialists hiked up the Mount Hector trail and came upon an avalanche scene where they were able to determine that the two individuals had been caught in that avalanche,” said RCMP Corporal Curtis Peters.

A hotel in the small town of Field, Alberta, notified the Royal Canadian Mounted Police by filing a missing persons report when the two failed to check out on March 13.

Local media reported that the two individuals were snowshoeing when they were swept up by the avalanche last weekend.

RCMP Corporal Curtis Peters told reporters in Lake Louise, Alberta, that the families of the two individuals have been notified. The names of the man and woman who were killed, both 32, are not being released for privacy reasons.
