A baby female elephant was born at a zoo in Russian southern city of Rostov-on-Don. Her parents are two 11-year-old Asian elephants Sinta and Yuma.

The calf, currently without a name, immediately stood up and started eating after she was born. Then, she took a nap standing up.

The zoo keeper hopes to keep the newborn calf in Rostov, but Russian zoos are short on elephants, so the calf will likely get transferred when she becomes old enough.

The calf’s parents were brought to Russia from Germany in 2009.

Asian elephants are listed as endangered species by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).
