These cute creatures, sea otters, are the smallest and nimblest of the marine mammals.
They are skilled at using tools, like a flat stone resting on their tummy, to open the hard shells of mollusks and sea urchins they pick up from the sea bottom. For other prey however, they don’t need a tool—they rip open prey like crabs with their forepaws.
