Adorable little boy and his grandmother have a long “Goodbye”

The relationship between grandparent and grandchildren is something special. Grandparents love their grandchildren very much, and also the reverse is true. There is even a saying: “The reason people have children is so they can have grandchildren.” This is of course an exaggeration, but it has a grain of truth in it. Why this relationship is so important for both parties?

Firstly, from the viewpoint of the grandparents, the children of their children are an evidence of their success as a parent. Moreover as a grandparent the responsibility of raising the grandchildren is not that big, you just get to love them. You can ignore some small misbehavior and spoil them. As grandparents usually have much more time than in early adulthood, they can enjoy more time with grandchildren. And also having accumulated money, they can buy presents for grandchildren, which is a source of joy for both of them.

From the viewpoint of grandchildren besides being a little spoiled, having presents there is more to the special relationship with their grandparents. They get a companion and a confidant – when parents are too busy be with them, having a grandparent around to talk with can be decisive. Grandparents also pass on the family history. Past family history is important to everyone and children who know stories about their ancestors show higher levels of emotional well-being. Grandparents can teach their grandchildren skills that they may not have learned elsewhere – like baking, sewing or traditional songs.

That being said it’s no wonder children love their grandparents so much that it’s hard for them to say goodbye after a long day spent together. Just like this lovely little boy who can’t say enough times “Goodbye” to his grandmother.
