African migrants continue to flood into Europe seeking safety

Migrants continue streaming into Europe from Africa.

Sylvain Kum, a young migrant from Cameroon, talked about the tough decision he had to make before he took this journey.

“It was very difficult for my mother to let me go. Besides me, she only has another child who is four-years-old. It was difficult for her to let go of her 20-year-old son who she will never see again, who she doesn’t know if he will ever arrive. It was very difficult for my mother, she really didn’t want me to go but she did in the end because I had made this decision to leave my family, my studies, everything,” he said.

Some must leave their families behind forever. Others make the dangerous journey with family. They don’t know if they will survive. They cross through regions of civil war, terrorism, and political unrest.

This weekend 730 migrants were rescued from sea. More than 65,000 have reached Italy this year. Reaching European shores marks the end of a deadly journey and the beginning of a new life.
