An Alabama dentist was found dead from flu-related causes after he was diagnosed with the illness just days before.
Etowah County Coroner London Pearce said that 44-year-old Dr. Chris Bittner likely died from a flu-related illness, ABC33/40 News reported.
Bittner, of Southside, was diagnosed with the illness in recent days. Toxicology results will be available in the next two to three months, the report said.
A person claiming to be a relative of the dentist said that Bittner “passed away thursday from complications from the flu,” according to a Facebook post.
Alexandria Family Dentistry, where Bittner had practiced since 2009, told patients on Facebook Jan. 18 that he died of the illness.
“It is with our deepest sorrow to inform you of the passing of our beloved, Dr. Chris Bittner. Please keep his family, friends & Alexandria Family Dentistry in your prayers,” it said.
Many who knew Bittner or were his patients were stunned by his death. “Too young for whatever reason,” one person wrote. “My heart goes out to his family. He always made everyone’s experience a pleasant one, or at least he did mine. I pray for family and friends in the this time of need,” added another person in the comments section.
Details about his death were not made available.
