A Draco, also known as flying lizard or flying dragon, is a reptile of the Agamidae family. There are 31 species found in South and Southeast Asia, living in the tropical rainforests. We aren’t sure exactly how longer a Draco Lizard will live, but we sure know some incredible facts about these amazing creatures. The one shown in this video is how they are able to turn themselves into a hang glider when threatened. A membrane near their ribs simply flips open and wah-la – instant flying capability!

Some of the other facts known about the Draco Lizard include:

  • They can glide up to 190 feet in the air, but they more often “fly” distances of 30 feet.
  • The females dig a hole in the ground and lay between 1 and 5 eggs, which protects for 24 hours. After that, eggs are covered with dirt and left on their own.
  • The colorful lizard can be blue, orange, red, or brown its body is often covered with different patterns. Those patterns provide camouflage.
  • They are extremely territorial creatures. The males defend their territory against other males, but all females are welcome.
