Everybody has their favorite fish story, and this one may be your favorite. Mainly because it was caught on camera, so you know it’s true! The fish known as Arapaima is a long, lustrous looking fish that grow up to 2 and a half meters (or around 8 feet). The world record, however, is much bigger coming in at a whopping 200 kg or about 440-pounds. Now that is a monster-size fish!

The Amazon has no shortage of river monsters, and everyone is familiar with the infamous Piranha. The Arapaima, however, is a prehistoric fish and a descendant of a fish species from more than 250 million years ago. Yes, they are survivors. Covered with a sheath of light but incredibly strong scales, that protection has kept them safe from many predators. Even piranhas can’t bite through them. The Arapaima are gentle by nature, but very dangerous as well.

Wach this video and see what it takes to land one of these barbaric Arapaima behemoths and see what they look like out of the water!
