U.S. Ambassador to the U.N.  Nikki Haley is working with China on North Korea.

“At this point I do believe and I think the administration believes that China is doing back-channel networking with North Korea in a way that’s getting them to try and stop the nuclear testing,” Hayley said on May 30. “So we believe that they are being productive.”

Haley is negotiating with China about when to apply new sanctions.

Some U.N. diplomats said China is not ready for open action. China is waiting until North Korea tests a true long-range missile or another nuclear device before stepping public pressure.. Apparently China is not concerned by North Korea’s tests of medium-range missiles and anti-aircraft systems.

Haley thinks sooner action might be better.

“Nothing is changing North Korea’s actions,” she noted.

The Security Council first sanctioned North Korea in 2006.
