America Is Talking (Oct. 27): Divided Over the Southern Border; Why Americans Pay So Much for Health Care

In this episode of America Is Talking, we look at two issues that are always high on the list of national concerns: immigration and border security; and health care, particularly the future of the now decade-old Affordable Care Act.

In this election cycle, border issues have taken a back seat to other hot topics like the pandemic, the economy, and health care. But back at the border, what we should do about it, is still highly contentious. Today, we delve into some of those concerns with two guests: Ira Mehlman, media director at the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR); and Dulce Garcia, executive director of Border Angels, a San Diego–based nonprofit that focuses on migrant rights and immigration reform.

And in health care, in 2010, President Obama passed the Affordable Care Act with the goal of making affordable health insurance available to more people. As we get ready to elect the next president, how have things gone since then? What is the current state of America’s complex health care system? We have two guests with us to help unravel some of these questions: Seth Denson, a business analyst and chief strategist at GDP Advisors; and Paul Seegert, managing partner at employee benefits consulting firm PCS Advisers.

Finally, we go “On The Road” with Epoch Times host Roman Balmakov to the battleground state of Arizona to see if we can figure out which way the wind is blowing ahead of the 2020 vote.
