State and local politicians are raising concerns about the number of new arrivals in the United States. Illegal immigration is said to be putting a strain on cities like Los Angeles and New York, and on states like Massachusetts.
NTD spoke to immigration expert Simon Hankinson of The Heritage Foundation about some solutions. He said that what’s best for those people arriving illegally in the country—while maintaining the interests of American citizens and genuine refugee applicants—is expedited due process. He notes that about 85 percent of illegal immigrants will not qualify for asylum and, if they are on parole after their due process, they should either be returned home or to whichever safe third country they traveled through on their way to the United States.
