Analyst Explains Why Young People Are Turning to Influencers for News Over Mainstream Outlets

A new report says young Americans are now turning to influencers more than mainstream news sources to stay informed. The findings were revealed by the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism. NTD speaks to Kalee Pair, a social media expert and strategist as well as the CEO of Pair’d Up! to learn more about the phenomenon.

Pair says younger generations tend to see influencers as “real people” like themselves, and are therefore inclined to place more trust in them. However, Pair cautions that celebrities and influencers may not always be in possession of the facts that a professional news outlet can offer.
