Animals of eternity: you’ll never need to feed these goldfish

At first glance this looks as though fish have been trapped in ice.

No doubt this looks astonishingly real, yet this is no photo, nor are they real fish. Although the surface does reflect like water does, this is a picture—or to be precise—multiple layers of pictures.

Japanese artist Riusuke Fukahori paints on resin poured on a table or bowl. Pouring another layer of epoxy above, and then painting little details on each layer creates these three-dimensional pieces of art. He’ll add layer after layer until all details sum up to a realistic image. The artist once said about himself, he’s not a painter—he’s a goldfish-artist.

His masterpieces can take him weeks to finish, depending on the number of layers needed. Each layer takes a full day to complete, as the paint and the resin need to dry before he can start a new one. Using such a time-consuming technique his art is truly one of a kind. Encasing these fish in an eternal piece of art.

In the video below, his goldfish swim around and into some real objects the artist molded into the resin, making his work even more incredible.
