South African anti-apartheid activist Ahmed Kathrada, a contemporary and compatriot of Nelson Mandela, was laid to rest in Westpark Cemetery in Johannesburg, South Africa, Wednesday, March 29.
He was 87 years old.
Kathrada, who was sentenced to life in prison for trying to overturn minority white rule in South Africa, remained politically involved after his release.
Kathrada was one of the most prominent African National Congress leaders to criticize South Africa President Jacob Zuma for widespread government corruption.
