The Republican Party of Arizona filed a lawsuit on Thursday night against the Maricopa County Recorder Adrian Fontes and other state officials. The lawsuit seeks to enforce a hand count of votes by precincts, as opposed to by “voting centers.”

In this year’s election, instead of assigning voters to polling places in their respective precincts, Maricopa County set up “vote centers,” where voters from any precinct within the county can go and vote.

Voting by precinct has been the traditional practice in prior elections. There were only around 175 vote centers in Maricopa County this election, but there were 748 precincts, according to the statement by the Arizona Republican party.
