NASA astronauts Shane Kimbrough and Peggy Whitson are doing some home improvements—in outer space.

The pair embarked on a 6.5-hour spacewalk to maintain and upgrade the International Space Station on Thursday, March 30.

The biggest task will be constructing a new docking port for commercial crew ferries being built by Boeing and Space X.

While they are outside the ISS, the astronauts will install an upgraded computer relay box.

Whitson has done eight spacewalks totaling over 50 hours, a record for female astronauts.
