Atlanta Police are investigating a homicide after the body of a woman was found beneath an interstate overpass on May 16.
The woman’s body was reportedly discovered by a movie crew.
“On May 16, around 5:26am, officers were flagged down at the intersection of Collier Dr NW and Harwell Rd NW. Units located an unresponsive female victim with multiple gunshot wounds,” as per Atlanta Police a media release.
The body was discovered in a neighborhood roughly 8 miles east of downtown Atlanta, under Interstate 285, Lt. Andrew Smith told local news outlet WAGA-TV at the crime scene.
Shortly after the discovery, paramedics arrived, and the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to an email sent to USA Today on May 16, the crime scene is still active pending the ongoing investigation.
“The scene is still active and ongoing as investigators are working to determine the circumstances surrounding this incident,” Officer T. Griffin wrote in the email.
NTD has contacted Atlanta Police and was referred to the initial press release until further notice, and was advised “that the information released is preliminary in nature and could change as the investigation progresses or new information comes to light.”
Preliminary information shows that police believe the victim was at a nearby bus stop with the yet-unidentified suspect in the shooting before she was shot.
Officer Griffin told USA Today that the suspect remained at large as of May 16.
NTD received an email from Officer Griffin that there are no further updates at this time.
“We do post arrest information on the website once an arrest has been made,” the officer said.
A motive for the murder is still being investigated. No further details as to the victim’s identity are known at this time.
An official cause of death is yet to be determined by a medical examiner.
