Director Ken Marino said he set out to give the audience an enjoyable 112 minutes of heartfelt and hilarious dog moments.

“The world is a really hard place right now to deal with every day. I wanted to dive into a movie that would make people feel good for a while,” said Ken Marino, according to People. “And I am sucker for dogs.”

But Marino said the main theme of the film is how people are inspired to become better, and how that inspiration can even come from a lowly pet.
