A message for athletes heading to Beijing next month for the Winter Olympics: not to eat meat in China—said a directive from the German Anti-Doping Agency on Monday.

The agency sent the warning to traveling athletes for fear they might fall foul of doping regulations.

Athletes may test positive in drug tests when they eat too much meat produced with clenbuterol, a steroid used to bulk up livestock and produce leaner meat.

Anti-doping agencies have long warned about this risk in meat produced in China.
