A baby boy died after he was rescued from the East River near the Brooklyn Bridge and rushed to hospital on Aug. 5.
Police estimate him to be around 8 months old.
Diana Campbell, a tourist from Oklahoma, spotted the baby floating near the Manhattan side of the Brooklyn Bridge just after 4 p.m. The baby was wearing only a diaper.
“You could see its little legs just floating and his head was in the water,” Diana told PIX 11 News.
Campbell’s husband, Monte, jumped into the water to bring the baby to land where he immediately performed CPR until police arrived.
Officials said police brought the baby to the pedestrian walkway where they continued CPR, PIX 11 News reported.
The baby was rushed to the NewYork-Presbyterian/Lower Manhattan Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
