A woman has been charged with abusing a 3-year-old girl who is fighting for her life in hospital with life-threatening injuries, according to police.

Lindsay Partin, 35, was babysitting toddler Hannah Wesche when she called emergency services to report that the toddler had become unresponsive. The call occurred shortly after Hannah’s father dropped her off to Partin around 7 a.m on March 8.

Emergency services found Hannah unconscious with labored breathing and obvious bruises on her head and face, according to a police statement released on March 12.

The child was transported to Fort Hamilton Hospital and then flown to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital in a critical condition.

After police questioning, Partin admitted to striking the child and said the 3-year-old had fallen and struck her head on the concrete garage floor the previous day, according to the sheriff’s office. Police are still investigating how the child received her injuries.

Hannah’s father Jason Wesche told a Butler County Area 2 Court during Partin’s brief video arraignment on March 12 that his daughter is “not expected to survive,” reported Fox 19.

“I mean it’s unimaginable. I can’t begin to explain the feeling of losing a child at the hands of this … of just a violent act. Hannah was great … I can’t,” Jason told the news station.

Partin has been charged with felonious assault and child endangerment, both felony charges.

“This little girl is hanging on by a thread. Cases like this rip your heart out. I don’t understand why or how anyone harms a child,” Sheriff Richard Jones said in the statement.

“Parents please know who is watching your children. Get background checks, talk to neighbors, friends, and family members before letting anyone watch your children. Know who you are leaving your babies with,” the sheriff warned.

The family has set up a GoFundMe page to raise money to cover medical costs. As of March 13, $1,600 has been raised.

No further details have been released.

Partin posted a $30,000 cash bond. She was released from jail on Monday afternoon.
