Misty Copeland’s new book “Ballerina Body” reveals the dietary and fitness philosophy of one of America’s top ballet dancers. Copeland is unique in that her body doesn’t resemble your typical ballerina.
Instead, Copeland offers advice on creating a healthy way of living that isn’t hard to achieve. Copeland herself is heftier than your average ballerina, but even in the competitive world of ballet she has managed to overcome both her own issues with body image, and other people’s perceptions, too.
She has also managed to overcome racial perceptions in ballet. Though her parents are both of mixed race, she is considered the first African-American principal dancer in the history of the highly lauded American Ballet Theatre.
