Two senators are shining a spotlight on whether Beijing can gain access to American financial data, including Social Security numbers.
Republican senator Tommy Tuberville (R-Ala.), and Rep. Jim Banks (R-Ind.) are demanding answers from the country’s top stock market regulators: the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, or FINRA.
In a letter Wednesday, they raised the issue of whether Chinese-linked companies are complying with American laws. That’s in terms of how they handle American data.
