Beijing Human Rights Lawyer Detained on the Way to Meet EU Representative

Beijing is tightening its grip on its people while it rolls out the red carpet for visiting foreign officials.

Yu Wensheng, a Chinese human rights lawyer, was detained earlier this month on his way to a meeting with the European Union ambassador to China. His wife was with him at the time and was also detained.

The EU has demanded that Beijing release the couple “immediately and unconditionally.”

France and Germany also made a joint call for their release.
