Belgian Interior Minister Jan Jambon stated unequivocally on April 21 that the gunman who attacked police in Paris was a French national, not a Belgian.

“It’s confirmed by the French that they know who it is,” Jambon stated. “They took the fingerprints and they confirmed it is a French guy from the neighborhood from Paris. “

French authorities have identified the gunman as Karim Cheurfi.

A Belgian national who was thought to be linked to the case spoke with the police and was cleared.

The confusion arose when ISI , which claimed responsibility for the attack, identified the attacker as “Abu Yousif al-Belgiki,” or “Abu Yousif the Belgian.”
