Moonlight won the Oscar for best picture.

Moonlight chronicled three important and difficult chapters in the life of Chiron, a young African-American man growing up in Miami. Chiron is played by Alex R. Hibbert (nicknamed “Little”), Ashton Sanders, and Trevante Rhodes (calling himself “Black”), during his early, teenage, and adult years, respectively.

Other nominated films included Arrival, Fences, Hacksaw Ridge, Hell or High Water, Hidden Figures, Lion, Manchester by the Sea and La La Land.

In a previous version of this article, due to an unexpected error among the Oscars organizers themselves, NTD incorrectly reported that La La Land had won the Oscar. NTD regrets the error.
