U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken said at a Thursday press conference in Rio de Janeiro that the United States disagrees profoundly with Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva’s recent comments comparing the situation in Gaza to the Holocaust. During the same press conference, however, Mr. Blinken also praised the South American leader after what he said was a productive conversation they had had about common global goals.

The G20 summit is scheduled to take place in the city later this year, and Mr. Blinken also discussed the Biden administration’s and G20’s agreements to work on global climate, financial, and food security issues.
