The bluebells are blooming in Belgium.
The forest floors are covered in a colorful carpet of wildflowers, inviting hikers to enjoy the beauty of nature at its most vivid.
Violette Yernaux, a Belgian student and first-time forest visitor, tried to explain the appeal: “I think it’s because they are all together and it’s making like, a carpet. It’s so pretty.”
Hallerbos forest in Belgium attracts people from all over, coming to see the blossoms.
The lucky ones, like Karel van Damme and his wife Martyne, live nearby. They visit several times a week during the brief season.
They have learned the habits of the flowers.
“It’s going to become even more beautiful, of course,” Karel promised. “The flowers are not yet blooming everywhere.
“Because it remains cold, it offers the advantage that the process of blooming will be slower. When it’s warmer they bloom quicker but also disappear quicker.”
The glorious ground cover only stays for 10 days at most. After that, leaves emerge on the overhanging beech trees, blocking the light.
Visitors have to time their trips just right to see the full floral glory.
Bluebells only grow in Belgium, the Netherlands, and some parts of England.
