A body believed to be a woman missing for two months was found at a car crash site in the Sierra Nevada foothills, near Fresno, Calif., on Oct. 10, according to police.
The woman is believed to be Jolissa Fuentes, 22, who was first reported missing on Aug. 8.
The car found at the crash site along Trimmer Springs Road, near Pine Flat Lake belonged to Fuentes. Some of her personal belongings were discovered at the crash site.
“No foul play is suspected in this case,” said a statement by the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office.
On Monday, Selma Police Department Chief Rudy Alcaraz found tire tracks going through vegetation that led off a cliff.
“Drones were flown and deputies rappelled down more than 400 feet off the roadway and discovered a damaged car. The vehicle belonged to Jolissa Fuentes. Human remains and some of Jolissa’s personal belongings were discovered in this ravine,” the statement said.
The coroner’s office must confirm the identity of the remains, but Fresno County Sheriff Margaret Mims said: “There’s little doubt that we have found her.”
Jolissa Fuentes was last seen in the early morning hours of Aug. 7 in Selma, and her family reported her missing the following day. Over the next two months, family, friends, and law enforcement conducted extensive searches and spread the word in hopes of gaining information about her whereabouts.
Fuentes’s car was not located earlier due to the vast amount of geography and terrain.
“Someone couldn’t try to hide the car better than that,” Alcaraz said at a press conference on Oct. 10.
